10. VITALY CHURKIN (age 64)
Russian Ambassador to United Nations
Feb. 20, 2017, died in New York, NY
Links to Trump: Minor
Just the Facts: The Russian ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, died of a “heart attack” suffered at the Russian Mission in New York on E. 67th Street. The NY Post reported that Churkin suddenly became ill outside the Mission, entered the building and collapsed. He was rushed to NY Presbyterian Hospital where he expired. A minor connection to Trump dates back to October, 2016, when Churkin created a minor controversy by protesting the speech that had been given by United Nations Commissioner on Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein. Zeid had criticized Donald Trump, calling him a demagogue.
• A “heart attack” was initially identified as the cause of death, but no official cause of death has been established because after the autopsy was completed, the U.S. State Department instructed New York City’s chief medical examiner not to disclose the cause of death” (BBC News). “The U.S. Department of State asked the city in writing on Feb. 24 to not reveal the autopsy results, because Churkin’s diplomatic immunity survives his death” (CBS News).
Official Cause Of Death: Unknown (per Russia’s state news agency)
